The disease is caused by a parasite that is transmitted from one human to another through the bite of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. The disease now occurs in 95 countries worldwide, and it is estimated that there are over 214 million clinical cases and 438,000 malaria caused deaths in 2015, 95 % of them are African children. The infection with P. falciparum, if not promptly treated, may be fatal.
